According to local media reports, the young man, a native of Carreto, got up early and headed toward a power pole located on the highway. His intention, according to witnesses, was to steal the wiring, but he ended up touching a high-voltage cable, which ended his life instantly.
The body remained motionless, hanging from the cables. It wasn’t until the sun rose and vehicles began to pass through the area that someone saw him in that condition and called the authorities. There was nothing more that could be done for him.
The man reportedly died at 4:30 a.m., when homes near the scene experienced a power outage. The Fire Department was called in to help remove the body from the utility pole.

The site where the tragedy occurred is apparently known as Los Tres Postes, precisely because it’s an area home to several utility poles, and this is supposedly not the first time power lines have been stolen there. Authorities have increased controls and patrols in the area to prevent similar incidents.
On social media, people have reported that a few months ago, a cable theft left Manatí without power for several hours. There are also messages of condolence for Jonathan’s family.
